Gregory Hemingway was born in 1928. In 1950 he would have been 22 - this photograph cannot have been taken then as it shows a much younger boy. It must be someone else. Mythic Writerlord (talk) 08:39, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[返信]

It is certainly Gregory but the date is wrong. Patrick was born in 1928 but Gregory (the subject here) was born Nov. 1931. Most of the Cuba photos of Greg and Patrick were taken 1942-43 by Martha Gellhorn, and this is probably one of them. Gregory looks about 11 or 12 here, and probably is that age. The same goes for the photo of Greg and Patrick with cats at the Finca, which must be mid-1942 from what we know of the three cats [1]. Also, Hemingway started to grow a beard when he started sub-hunting on the Pilar in late 1942 to protect from sunburn, and in the cat photo, he doesn't have the beard yet. The cat photo cannot be 1941 as EH spent that year in China. My best guess for it is July 1942 when Greg and Patrick visited the Finca for the first time. It can be much later, since in the cat photo we have mustache and no beard, and Hemingway had beard continuously from 1942 to June 1944 when he cut it off in London.
Greg looks about the same age in the kitten photo as the "Greg with Papa at Club de Cazadores" photo here. But this shotgun photo is later, since now Hemingway *does* have the beard. So my guess is this is the next after-school season of 1943. Greg would have been 12. Sbharris (talk) 01:07, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[返信]
