Question[编辑]

Hi HapHaxion! Actually, I have two questions: what’s exactly not showing in the preview? In Safari, this svg looks kinda good. Or I don’t just know, probably, how it should look like. And second, I’m eager to know how do you reduce file size? I would use it if it would be applicable in my work and with my tools. Thanks a lot in advance! — Pacha Tchernof (留言) 22:21, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[回复]

@Pacha Tchernof: Hmm that's odd. I was using Microsoft Edge to view the file on one computer, which gave the issue I described (opening the file in a separate tab to view), but when doing the same on another computer, it displayed fine. I'm not sure what the issue was.
In terms of the reduction in file size, I use a few methods depending on the situation. The first, which I'll refer to as the website methods, uses online optimizing tools such as SVGOMG, Vecta Nano and SVGCleaner to automatically adjust the code to reduce size. I'd then check everything over manually to make sure the file is accurate enough, rendering correctly (in a web browser, graphics editor, and on WikiMedia's end), and that the code changes wouldn't hamper other editors from going in later to make changes before uploading (if any of the above results in an issue, I won't upload a new version at all, as the different software causes issues in some cases). The second is by using the "Optimized SVG" option in the "save as" dialog box in Inkscape. This reduces the size by optimizing the code in a different way to the websites above, and as such, may result in a different file size than the above. I'd do the same check on the file as described earlier afterwards to make sure everything is good to go. Saving as a "Plain SVG" is an option as well in the dialog box file type drop-down menu. In both tactics you can adjust several settings to change what the optimizer looks for to edit. Aside from all that, I also sometimes check for any hidden or out-of-bounds objects that might be contributing to an unnecessarily large file and remove them. If the file size difference isn't that large, I usually refrain from changing anything, as I'd assume the code is formatted in a way for ease of editing. Very small/simple files can often be optimized by more experienced editors by hand, which often results in the smallest file size even compared to the above, which is why I usually don't use the optimizers in those situations.
