This diagram is in need of revision

[編輯]

Prior to my edit just now, this is what the totality of the image description stated:

"A Euler diagram showing the relationship between objects in the Solar System (excluding stars)."

This strikes me as quite strange for more than one reason:

- Why is "stars" stated as plural?! There is only one.
- Why is the one star excluded at all? It is far and away the most massive object found in the Solar System.

It would be very easy to add a loop across the top of this diagram: "Star".

So the most massive category has been ignored in this diagram. And also the most numerous category has not been specifically recognized. Cosmic dust. Dust falls into separate regions within this diagram, and it would be more comprehensive if this were to be explicitly stated. Here is the totality of additions being recommended:

- Add a "Star" category at the top,
- Add within the "Satellite (natural)" category two more:
-- Moonlets, and
-- Cosmic dust (found in rings, etc),
- Add within the "Small Solar System bodies" category one more:
-- Cosmic dust (found in zodiacal dust, etc).

I do not have the software to edit an svg file. I could do this edit myself and post as a .png, but there appears to be a strong preference for .svg's for some reason. So for now I will leave this suggestion for others to consider doing. Perhaps I will decide at some point to make these updates as a .png file. I will give that some time to see what other suggestions for improvement different editors might have.

The last problem that this diagram and description had was that it showed "Satellites (natural)" as a category. Now the parenthetical serves to imply the possibility of satellites which are unnatural. And everyone knows that thousands of these exist in our Solar System, and have become one of its most significant features. Yet it was never stated in the description that this entire category was being ignored. My edit has included a statement in recognition of this. So that part has been fixed. It is now specified, and no longer left up to the reader to figure out on their own exactly what has been excluded from this diagram, other that what they were being told was excluded ("stars"). -- Tdadamemd19 (對話) 20:26, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[回覆]

Natural satellites

[編輯]

Only Centaurs and tran-Neptunian objects have natural satellites. I didn't know that !
