This painting is likely misattributed to the artist John Lewis Krimmel. I am curious as to the method of attribution? Is there documentary evidence for this? The work is obviously from the hand of George Heriot in any case. I wrote a blog on Heriots Native paintings which you can find here:

The work "Exhibition of Indian Tribal Ceremonies at the Olympic Theater, Philadelphia"is not identified in the biography of Heriot, "George Heriot - Postmaster-Painter of the Canadas" and I would suppose that the work has been misidentified as being an American piece of that title which is why the work has been misattributed. I would be happy to talk this over with anyone at the MET and explain why the work is Heriots.You can contact me through my blog.
