File revert, sources for proportions, and the conflation with the flag of Scania

I have reverted the file to the 00:36, 8 May 2009 version by Makaristos until there are sources for the claim that the proportions should be as the flag of Sweden. I furthermore suspect any rationale for the latest proportion change may possibly have been influenced by the erroneous conflation with the flag of Scania, which has been evident here on the talk page and in several erroneous edits of the description. --Kasper^su _{tlk • ctb • act} 21:14, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Oppose rename

Proposal is "Flag of Swedish-speaking Finns.svg" -> "Flag of the Finland Swedes.svg". The former name Flag of Swedish-speaking Finns.svg is more understandable. The title should be understandable also for people not engaged in the language conflict in Finland. Taylor 49 (トーク) 12:17, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

Reductionistically referring to the question as a “language conflict” demonstrates precisely what was wrong with the old file name, for this truly is the flag of the Finland Swedes, who constitute an ethnolinguistic minority group of Finland, rather than any Finlanders who happen to be Swedophone. For any contributors who might come across this discussion in the future, I will repeat my rationale here, as I still stand by it:

This flag does not merely represent a linguistic group, but an ethnic one as well. Just as the term “Sweden Finns” refers to the ethnolinguistically Finnish minority of Sweden, so too do the “Finland Swedes” constitute the ethnolinguistically Swedish minority of Finland.

Indeed, the corresponding Wikipedia article for the “mirror” group is titled “Sweden Finns”. Even putting the fact aside that this flag represents the Finland Swedes, the complaint about the term “Finland Swedes” being less understandable than “Swedish-speaking Finns” is purely subjective. —VulpesVulpes42 (トーク) 08:00, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
