I do not believe this is a picture of Gouverneur Morris the statesman; I believe this is a picture of his son, Gouverneur Morris II. In the first place, this man is wearing what look to be clothes of a later era than Morris at this age. Secondly, it doesn't look like the other paintings and engravings of Morris -- for example, the picture of him done in 1779, held in the manuscript division of the NYPL -- see Max Mintz's frontispiece in Gouverneur Morris and the American Revolution; or the painting done by Peale of Gouverneur and his friend Robert Morris at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, also in Mintz and other books. I'd highly recommend putting the NYPL drawing in here instead of this one.
