This photo cannot be HMS Indefatigable which had a spotting tower directly behind the conning tower, the round structure immediately behind and above the forward gun turret. This structure would have blocked the light that can be seen directly behind the conning tower in this picture. Furthermore, Indefatigable's bridge structure was built above the conning and spotting towers and did not wrap around the legs of the tripod as it does in this picture.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 16:49, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

The giveaway is that the spotting tower is incorporated into the back of the conning tower. Distinguishing between Australia and New Zealand early in their careers could be problematic? Simon Harley (talk) 17:12, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Ed_17 makes a good point that the source of the photo generally only photographed ships in US ports. New Zealand did visit the US in 1919–1920 and possibly in 1913, but this photo is earlier than 1919, judging by the bridge area and superstructure.Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 16:41, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
