Thanks for the research and rename request :)
While reason sounds logical and understandable, it seems they defined this as 'hidari': http://dl.ndl.go.jp/info:ndljp/pid/780553/26?tocOpened=1
the shapes meant to be look like left hand/arm protectors for bow, it says.
