Map Dates[编辑]

The animated map showing the evolution of territory is very cute. Unfortunately, at least in what concerns dates and the holdings of the Dukes of Burgundy, it is wrong. Which leads me to suspect other errors - at least because Burgundy territory is falsely attributed to others. For an unknown reason, Burgundy comes suddenly into existence in 1429, a date of no particular importance. And then disappears in 1450, also for no apparent reason. (The Valois Dukes of Burgundy reigned from 1363-1467, over constantly shifting territory.)

My working assumption is that the author of the map used different sources with different criteria for the various years. Since the holdings of the Dukes of Burgundy were under various kingdoms, it is correct to describe some of them, for example, as French holdings. But applying differing criteria within a single documents, calling them French for one year and Burgundian for another, makes no sense. If the differences are based on battlefield positions, it needs to be explained, but the maps do not correspond to the reality of political and military power. (At times the Duke of Burgundy controlled Paris, for example, at moments the French King at the time were either a minor, or mad.
