The description of this photo is incorrect. As a sailor who was on the USS Ranger while at Hunters Point I can provide correct information. The other carrier on the far right is NOT the Coral Sea (CVA43). The carrier in the photo is the USS Midway (CVA41). It was there being refitted with an angle deck. Look at the number on the forward flight deck. Also, after I left the Ranger, I was assigned to the Coral Sea.

Whoever wrote this is not right: the carrier at right is definitely Coral Sea. She is easily identifiable by her hull number "43" visible on the flight deck. Ranger had returned from Vietnam on 17 June 1971, whereas Midway was off Vietnam when this photo was taken. She had already left Hunter's Point in 1970. Hancock had returned from Vietnam on 2 June 1971. Coral Sea started local operations in September 1971, and left for Vietnam on 12 November. Cheers Cobatfor (トーク) 21:02, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[返信]
