Log scale[編輯]

Where is the log scale? 77.199.99.11 (talk) 09:45, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[回覆]

Many problems[編輯]

There are many problems with this diagram, as described in W:Talk:Rydberg formula. The scale is not logarithmic as it says in the description; the wavelength units are meters, not nanometers; the alpha lines marked are actually the beta lines (the alpha lines are missing); and the Humphreys series is in the wrong place. An effort is under way to replace this file with a Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) version, which repairs these problems. Hops Splurt (留言) 13:12, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[回覆]

Vector version was already available[編輯]

It turns out there was already an SVG version of this image:

It uses a logarithmic scale, represents the convergence of each series towards the UV side of the spectrum, marks the visible part of the spectrum, puts the lines in the correct place, shows and marks the correct alpha lines. Also, this file is already very widely used.

Disadvantages:

  • The SVG lines representing the spectral lines are drawn very thick. Even in large magnifications the lines quickly blend into each other.
  • The image is not very wide, making blending of the lines more prominent.
  • There are only three scale markings, and those are very intrusive, obscuring some of the spectral lines.

Nevertheless it will do nicely as a replacement. I changed the "Should be SVG" template to the "Vector version available" template. Hops Splurt (留言) 17:37, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[回覆]
