Urheberschaft/Authorship

[编辑]

I'd suggest to consider Jules Gaspard Rastoux as Author of the engraving. The evidence is admittedly weak: The german Roycroft article lists unsourced an engraver Jules Gaspard. --Port(u*o)s (talk) 16:28, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[回复]

I've think you've found the likely artist. Most books which discuss this sketch assume that it's signed "Gasparo", but it may equally be "Gaspard". The fact is that, as you suggest, Gaspard belonged to the Roycrofters, and it was they who published the Little Journeys series this sketch appeared in. Furthermore I can find explicit statements on Google Book Search that Gaspard drew the portraits for Elbert Hubbard's Little Journeys books. An example of his work can be at the top portraits (left and center) on this page [1]. The center picture, in particular, has a strong resemblance to the Hypatia picture.
