Trabzon province

Çaykara district in Turkey's Trabzon province should be included in this map in light blue. The situation there is similar to Magna Grecia in southern Italy. A majority of the population in this district speaks a local dialect of Pontic Greek as their first language. It is also spoken by large numbers of people in neighboring districts Dernekpazari, Surmene, Köprübaşı, Hayrat and Ikizdere. It fits just in the top-right corner of this map. Bulgaria

What about Plovdiv (Philippoupoli)? I saw in a emission where a team visited the region that people there knew Greek and a lot of them were Greeks. Giannisdel123, 3:10, 2 June 2016 (UTC)

The question is; is it widely spoken in the area of Plovdiv? Are there certain villages or neighborhoods where it is prominent? If there are just a lot of Greek speakers spread throughout the city, then I don't think it should be included in this map. Else we can include California to Kazakhstan. I also wonder if there areas in/near Crimea or Mariupol that should be included in this map?NeoRetro (留言) 17:56, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Map mistakes

In Albania Greek is spoken in a wider area to the north close to the coastline, about until the end of the peninsula. (There are Greek communities as north as Palasë)

In FYROM, Greek is spoken in the southwest part of the country. https://olympia.gr/2011/04/27/minorities-in-fyr-of-macedonija/

Greek is spoken in the area of Istanbul by the Greek community.

Some of the Antiochian Greek Christians still speak Greek in the Levant.

Also there are traditionally Greek speakers in the area of Alexandria and Cairo.

More regions

Al-Hamidiyah is a town in syria with Greek speaking population. It is next to the sea in Syria-Lebanon border. Also there are Greek speaking populations in the Region of Of (North Eastern Turkey). I need some assistance with an updated version that i am trying to insert.

Hello Constantine. Can you please assist me by inserting this following updated version of the map, https://i.ibb.co/Qpq9XLm/Idioma-Griego.png. I tried myself to uploaded it as you can see in the last edit description, but it resulted in a failed attempt for some reason, by inserting the same version as before. Here are again the reasons of my edit:

1. The Greek language is de jure and de facto present throughout the Hellenic Republic, therefore all of the country should be in dark blue color.

2. Greek is official in the ethnic Greek settlements of Italy, namely the Griko, therefore it should be in dark blue color.

3. Greek is official in Albania, within a certain ethnic minority zone recognized by the State, therefore the official minority zone should be in dark blue color while the rest in light blue.

4. Greek is an unofficial language in northern Cyprus, therefore it should be in light blue color.

5. Pontic Greek is still spoken as an unofficial language in north-eastern Turkey. For some reason the last editor took it out.

@Odder: Thanks for responding @odder. Unfortunately i still see the prior version of @Χρηστος Μυτακιδης. Even if you look at the timeline of the versions below the image, the image that shows as my edit is the one of @Χρηστος Μυτακιδης, even though i uploaded another one. I don't know, it looks very strange to me. And i am sure i didn't upload his because i didn't have it saved on my computer, which could justify it as a mistake from my part. @Demetrios1993: As I mentioned before, I am seeing your updated version of the file and when I try to upload it, I am getting an error message saying it is an exact duplicate of an already existing file (this one). @Odder: Yeah, i am also getting that message when i try to re-upload it, but as you can see between the one that shows as my edit and the one from the link above, they are different. Anyway, thanks for your time and effort. I will check out Help:Purge to see whether i can resolve it. False map and with political ends

The map shows very serious errors:

1. In Messina (Sicily, Italy) Greek is not spoken (neither ancient nor modern), and what was done in the municipality in 2013 is a shame to take money from the state.

2. In Albania, Greek is not spoken as a mother tongue (Koine Greek is used by the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (although it has official predispositions to use the Albanian mother tongue in liturgies and offices). Who speaks modern Greek is because he learned it from radio and television during communism, like many Albanians have learned Italian, but they are not Italians for this. All past documents show how Albanian has always been spoken in southern Albania and people practiced the Greek rite (Byzantine rite), and because of this there was an ethnic misunderstanding (as in the Arbereshe countries in Italy). Furthermore, Albanian is not spoken in North (Durres) either.

3. In the Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Greek is not spoken as shown in this map, it is totally incorrect and approximate, as well as increasing the area, which would be practically non-existent (indeed, it is Slavic-Macedonian that is spoken in the north of Greece, just as Albanian is spoken in a large area of ​coutry).

4. Today the modern greek is not spoken in the North of Cyprus.

5. The "Greek-speaking" areas of Turkey and Arab countries are actually areas of diffusion of the Orthodox Christianity or "Greek-Catholic Christianity" (that is, Catholics of the Eastern rite or Byzantine rite, but not Greeks of ethnicity), so this population is not the same as being Greek. It amazes me because they don't even bring Istanbul at this point.

The creator of the map certainly has propaganda and grandiosity intentions, typical of those who want to appear. The paper must be eliminated, revised and published with scientific methods, and not with objectives related to the Megalo Idea.188.12.224.198 02:57, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

official minority language

Greek language is an official minority language in some communities in the regions of Apulia and Calabria, in Italy: these areas, like all the areas where greek language is recognized as minority language, shouldn't be included in those places where greek language is "unofficially spoken", because the speakers have a legal status there.
