From Kongeflagg to Kongeflagget[编辑]
The name of this file, contributed by Hosmich on 7 August 2013 and based on my png version of 7 June 2013, was for no good reason changed from "Kongeflagg.svg" to "Kongeflagget.svg" by user Fridolin freudenfett on 16 December 2020 following a request by user Gutten på Hemsen the preceding day. The same change has been implemented for the file Kongeflagg.png, my original design. The perpretators motivate the change by stating this reason: “Kongeflagg” is a misspelling of the proper noun; Criterion 3.
That is a false fact, caused by insufficient knowledge of the Norwegian language. Nouns in Nordic languages are inflected by adding a suffix to the indefinite form, in this case the definite article -et, since flagg is a neuter noun. There is no misspelling here, et flagg and flagget are correct ways of spelling and speaking this word. It is still the same name and thing.
The change makes no difference in articles illustrated by these files. It is unnecessary as well as errouneous.
To prove that Kongeflagg was the original name of the flag in question, consult the Resolution by the Norwegian Government that introduced the Royal Ensign on 15 November 1905:
Den norske Regjerings Resolution, hvorved det bestemmes, at Norges Kongeflag eller det Flag, som benyttes af Kongen og den kongelige Familie, skal være et høirødt Flag, hvis Bredde skal forholde sig til dets Længde som 5 til 7 og indeholdende en opreist, kronet gylden Løve, holdende i Forlabberne en opløftet Stridsøkse med gyldent Skaft og Blad af Sølv. - @Roede: Hello, Roede. Thank you for your input. I’ll summarize my thought process in a few sentences so that we can have an informed discussion over the matter. Firstly: you are absolutely right, the citing: “Kongeflagg” is a misspelling of the proper noun; Criterion 3. is my own misrepresentation of the reasoning behind the suggested change. In fact, I found the name to be generic, and not incorrect or misspelled. It appears to me that the term Kongeflagg is missing the context necessary to identify this specific flag. Kongeflagg could in my opinion mean any flag used by any king, and in this context a generic flag for a unnamed king instead of the Norwegian king, specifically. Kongeflagget, however does in my mind specifically refer to the king’s flag, and in Norwegian the king always refers to the Norwegian king.
- I am despite this, open to renaming the files, once more, but this time to the name given in the legal document you cited: expanding Kongeflagg to Norges kongeflagg. This would guarantee, beyond any doubt, that the file names refer to the Norwegian king’s flag, giving us: Norges kongeflagg.png and Norges kongeflagg.svg.
