  The {{Copyvio}} template does not seem to be working well, so I'll leave the rationale here. French copyright law is significantly different from US copyright law. This specific painting is copyrighted, even though it is very old, as stated in the Musée du Louvre website. This image is a copyvio. --Boricuæddie 18:43, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

I note that French law has sometimes gone either way when the copyright status of photos of old works has been contested. So I have reverted this to an earlier version which has a slightly different crop and different lighting and saturation - a different photographer or at least a different source (and for some reason reversed right to left). The bigger version from the source mentioned above is still available Image:Louis_XIV_of_France.jpg. --Tony Wills 20:48, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
