Nebraska[编辑]

When the use of the electric chair was ruled unconstitutional in Nebraska in 2008, did Nebraska stop using the death penalty entirely or did they just stop using the electric chair? --Whoop whoop pull up (talk) 22:33, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[回复]

Nebraska just stopped using the electric chair. Today, Nebraska has lethal injection as their sole method of execution. Nebraska actually briefly abolished the death penalty in 2015 when its legislature voted to do so, but Nebraska's capital punishment was reinstated by public vote during the U.S. general election on November 8, 2016. This map has several errors.[编辑]

This map has several pretty big errors, and I think it should be deleted until a revised and correct version can be uploaded.

  1. The map says that Alabama is green - which would mean that it "once used the electric chair, but no longer does." This is false. Alabama still has the electric chair as an option for any inmate who would like to choose it. That became an option in 2002, and before then, the default was the electric chair; now the default is lethal injection, but absolutely any inmate, even one theoretically sentenced to death tomorrow, could be executed in the electric chair if they so wish. No inmates have chosen it yet, but the choice is still there.
  2. The map says that Alaska is yellow - which would mean that Alaska uses the electric chair as a secondary method. Alaska has never, ever used an electric chair in its entire history; nor have they ever signed legislation to have one in the first place. The only death penalty method that is on record as having ever been used by Alaska is hanging. Additionally, Alaska abolished the death penalty in 1957, so there is no way that they would even have a "secondary method" of execution because they have no death penalty.
  3. The map also has Arkansas marked as yellow, which would mean that Arkansas uses the electric chair as a secondary method. In theory, this is correct, but Arkansas death penalty law decrees that no inmate can select the electric chair unless they committed the crime for which they were sentenced to death before July 14, 1983. The last inmate who fit that description was executed in 2004, and he chose lethal injection. There are no inmates in Arkansas who are eligible for the electric chair. On top of that, Arkansas moved their electric chair to a museum. There is a huge chance that Arkansas will never use the electric chair again, and for that reason, Arkansas should be labeled green.

Again, until those edits are made, I think the map should be deleted. Afddiary (留言) 17:24, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[回复]
