Please add 1918 for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. DJ Sturm (talk) 15:37, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[回覆]

Where do you take the 1918 for Estonia? Some sources i found (like this one) say Estonia was metricated on 1 January 1929. Flying Saucer (talk) 01:07, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[回覆]

When taking in the USSR were: Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus

Colonies[編輯]

In the case of former colonies, the date on which a country adopted the metric system is ambiguous. Most of the French colonies adopted the metric system when they were colonized by France, the Portuguese and Dutch colonies when the mother country adopted the metric system and the British and Spanish colonies after the achieved independence. In my view, the map should indicate when metrication was adopted regardless of whether the country was independent or not. Martinvl (talk) 10:09, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[回覆]

Colour-blindness[編輯]

I replaced the {{update|COLORBLIND-UNSAFE...}} banner with a {{Warning|...}} banner as I do not see how to remedy the problem. Once the oceans are coloured blue and countries that have not yet metricated are coloured black, the available colours are red, green and yellow. Red and yellow are not opposite each other on the contrast chart nor are green and yellow, leaving only red and green. Martinvl (對話) 16:54, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

Note that the ocean does not necessarily have to be coloured blue. One can colour it white / transparent, and the countries red / blue. See File:World_metrication.svg. Yinweichen (對話) 14:29, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[回覆]

Colonies[編輯]

This map does not distinguish between countries that inherited the metric system from their colonial rulers and countries that adopted the metric system of their own free will. For example, much of Francophone Africa is shown as adopting the metric system in the 1960s - the period when those countries became independent, but in reality, they inherited the metric system when they were colonised by the French. In contrast, the former British colonies in Africa adopted the metric system after independence - most attained independence during the early 1960's but adopted the metric system only after Britain announced her metrication program in 1965.

In the case of Francophone Africa, this raises the question - should the countries be deemed to have adopted the metric system when they were colonised (France having adopted the metric system well before colonising these countries), or should they be flagged as "having inherited the metric system upon attaining independence". Color Map[編輯]

It is not clear what represents the yellow color.

Turkey and portuguese colonies[編輯]

There is no explanation to the white color of Turkey and Greenland.

Portuguese colonies should have adopted the metric system as the same time as Portugal in 1814.Japf (對話) 01:26, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[回覆]

Findings

H. Vera gives 1869 for the Ottoman Empire, while NIST gives 1924. This last date is the date of the foundation of the modern Turkey, not the date of metrification.Japf (對話) 01:58, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[回覆]

For Portugal, this site from the portuguese Government states the adoption of the metric system was in 1814 and its use became obligatory from 1860. I think the maps refers to the initial adoption, not the obligatory, The latter case would imply that the UK would still be colored in black.

The decrete states the "Kingdom and Islands" which corresponds only to the present day portuguese territory and doesn't mention the colonies. Japf (對話) 00:09, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[回覆]

I have added Greenland to the code. Accodrding to Vera, it should be considered part of Denmark.
