Original map vs. manipulated map

This is a manipulated version of the original 4th edition of the Meyers Konversationslexikon map. The original map does not contain any such smudge effect. This original, true version of the map is also already plenty large in size and quite legible, which in any event are less important features than actual map accuracy. Any additional uploads of the distorted map, and I'll personally list it for deletion. Per WP:OI: "It is not acceptable for an editor to use photo manipulation to distort the facts or position illustrated by an image. Manipulated images should be prominently noted as such. Any manipulated image where the encyclopedic value is materially affected should be posted to Wikipedia:Files for deletion." Soupforone (留言) 08:48, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello Soupforone,

I assume, you mean that the former version of Feb. 6 is manipulated. Then please help me understanding: Why did you upload this – for now – latest version (Feb. 8), an image that is clearly manipulated (color balance, contrast and the like), instead of the scan you found at tinypic.com, which seems indeed closer to the original printed map? Regardless what version you upload, please adapt the link at “source” in the information box, to match the source of your version. At this time it leads to the source of the previous version. Hello. There is a difference between adjusting the color balance of a dusky image while preserving its actual shading (as the February 8 upload does), to altering the shading of certain areas to the point where it is unclear what taxa those areas are meant to represent (as the February 6 upload does). Regardless, the fact remains that the original file contains no such smudging. The file also does not link to any page that does - the actual page it links to apparently contains no map [1]. Hues & size

Resizing the manipulated map and altering its hues doesn't make it any more original either - far from that. This is the actual original map. Soupforone (留言) 03:29, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
