France was definitely not a member of NATO in 1973. France fully left NATO in 1966 and did not rejoin NATO until 2009. President Charles de Gaulle had pulled France out of NATO's military command in 1966, arguing he had to preserve French independence in world affairs. Forty-three years later, March 2009, President Nicolas Sarkozy announced France wanted to return as a full-fledged member of the 26-nation military pact, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.177.30.17 (talk) 00:30, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[回覆]

Back in the mid-late 1980s, I recall seeing maps showing NATO and France was never included in those maps. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.177.30.17 (talk) 00:37, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[回覆]
Actually, Spain and Portugal did not join NATO until 1982; so, 1973 - France, Portugal and Spain not in NATO. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.177.30.17 (talk) 00:50, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[回覆]
