The image comes from Alfred Bower Clayton's "Views of the Liverpool & Manchester railway" published by Engelmann et al. in 1831. It is, however, a cropped view (a full version is here and also reversed horizontally. There is no indication that it represents the inaugural run (no other trains are visible and one man appears to be debarking at the stopping-place on Green Lane, Patricroft).
