Hardly[編集]

this is hardly a "T and O map". The point of a T and O map is that it shows all the world. This is just an orthographic projection of a hemisphere, most of America being invisible. A "modern" T and O map should morph all of the sphere into a circle, with a singularity in the Pacific somewhere, if Jerusalem is to be in the center. 81.63.112.254 21:42, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[返信]

I agree with the thrust of your statement, even though you're wrong on the particulars. T&O maps are maps of the Old World and there's nothing wrong with omitting America or treating it as the World Ring. The problem is that you're right in general: this isn't a world map: it's a T overlaying a snapshot of the earth instead of a proper map projection, distorting what would be visible from space to make the coordinates work in a unified way for the map. Jerusalem should be the center but it should point east, not southeast with Asia wrapped out of sight.
Yes, this would be nice to see and thank you OP for taking the time to make this... but no it's not actually a T/O map. — LlywelynII 08:39, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[返信]
First, a "snapshot of the earth as seen from space" is actually a map projection -- it's an Azimuthal projection. Second, the only "distortion" I can see is slightly rotating the view of the earth so that the Red Sea is as close to horizontal as possible while the Mediterranean is simultaneously as close to vertical as possible. Obviously it's not a medieval map, but it usefully compares modern map data to various medieval maps... AnonMoos (トーク) 11:06, 14 March 2015 (UTC)[返信]
