Inaccuracies around Eritrea[編輯]

For 1680 (83?) this map is inaccurate. While during the war in the late 1550s (starting 1557) and 1560s, the Ottomans were fighting in locations as far in as Debre Damo in northern Ethiopia, they Ottomans never ruled over anything more than Massawa and Arkiko (a town right across from the island of Massawa), and a few miles just outside of those towns. For sources see the English wikipedia article on Habesh that I wrote.

I'm not sure about the Beja territories, though. Somebody should look into that.— Yom 21:28, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[回覆]

Thank you, Yom, for the information. I'm the creator and uploader of this map and I also maintain and update it thanks to occasional correction requests of this kind. I will look into the matter and update the map accordingly. It would also be great if you can point me to one or two published maps of the region belonging to this period, if you happen to know any. I don't believe there are any maps from this period, although you might be able to find some portuguese maps from the early 17th century that would show the region. These are generally not completely accurate, however. I can direct you to this map (full map here), however, which shows the area in detail (Archico = Arkiko/Hirgigo, just south of Massawa aka Massaua; Dogali is 10 miles directly west of Massawa). The city (island as well) of Massawa and the city of Arkiko right across were within Ottoman control (not sure about the Dahlak islands), but Dogali, 10 miles outside of the area, were not. Since this map is not at high resolution, a simple dot in the region should suffice. — Yom 19:14, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[回覆]

It should be decided whether the map should use historical city names or current ones. If historical names are to be used, then Buda shouldn't be called Budapest (which it wasn't called before 1873), and if modern names are used then why is Istanbul called Constantinople. Inaccuracies from Mantran corrected since Stier today[編輯]

More sources amalgame the Ottoman provinces with vassal states, and the present boundaries (of Egypt by example) with the XVII-th century ones. But not the Stier's Westermann historic atlas. So, I try today to correct the inaccuracies, but may be, some other contributors don't agree this details & precisions ? So long, --Spiridon Ion Cepleanu (留言) 17:55, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[回覆]

Northwestern extent[編輯]

It seems that the map is largely inaccurate in the NW part with a large bulge protruding west of Vienna through Austria and to northern Croatian coast, and seems that the entire Kingdom of Hungary was completely conquered when actually some 1/4 always remained in Habsburg hands, and even Austrian Styria on this map is Ottoman even though it was never a part of the Ottoman domain, raids and plunder yes, but not conquest and territory, so from this map it would seem towns like Zagreb and Graz would be in Ottoman hands and they never were even for one day.

The map also falsely shows Venetian holdings before 1683 in Dalmatia much larger than they actually were after Ottoman conquest of Dalmatian hinterland in early 1500s, Venice got back there only after and was confined mostly to coastal towns for more than 150 years.

This map here is much more accurate and it shows where Ottoman Empire and Habsburgs formed the border after last bigger Ottoman conquests in Bosnia and Croatia in 1592 (fall of Bihać) and it lasted until new offensive started in 1680s. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/73/Europe_map_1600.jpg

Budapest[編輯]

It's Buda (and Pest) until 1873. Good morning. Read Wikipedia. There was no Budapest until the late 19th century. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.183.27.2 (talk) 19:42, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[回覆]

Inaccuracy of the map[編輯]

I have updated it so many times but it still contains minor errors.--Visnelma (留言) 14:50, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[回覆]
