Species identification

[编辑]

According to the new taxonomy, this is certainly the stubelii form as the given location Nevado del Ruiz is situated in Central Andes rather than the Eastern. Purple beard reflectant spots also comply with stubelii. --roarjo (留言) 06:54, 16 May 2015 (UTC)[回复]

The photographer, Juan José Arango, identified this humming correctly as the monotypic Bearded Helmetcrest, Oxypogon guerinii, at the time the photo was shot. However, Oxypogon was split into four species based on Collar, N.J. & Salaman, P. 2013. The taxonomic and conservation status of the Oxypogon helmetcrests. Conservación Colombiana 19: 31-38., follow link to proposal (609) to South American Classification Committee from Bearded helmetcrest. The proposal has been adopted by various check lists, including Clements checklist from 6.9 Sept. 2014. This photo is from Nevado del Ruiz in central Andes. It fits with the distribution of present O. stubelii. Looking at the details of the beard on picture, it exhibit green + purple. Other characteristics that can be recognized is missing white in crest.

O. guerinii, on the other hand, has a distribution in eastern Andes. This picture on Flickr from National Park Chingaza, eastern Andes, shows the guerinii form.--roarjo (留言) 06:30, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[回复]
