Paul:

The appropriate sign code would R8-3 with the double arrow plaque below it.

Subject: Inquiry regarding MUTCD code for a sign

Hi there. Someone has posted an image here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:PADOT_R7-7A.svg which consists of the no parking symbol (P behind the "prohibition slash") which is normally classified as R8-3 No Parking, but is different in that it includes two arrows pointing away from each other. Now, according to the poster, (by the name of the file) it's classified by the Pennsylvania DOT as R7-7A (which would be "no parking bus stop"). Maybe that's what they use it for, but there's no equivalent in the MUTCD. Since this particular symbol has neither the words "Bus Stop" nor the AIGA bus symbol, I don't think it qualifies for that.

So I am wondering, if an R8-3 no parking sign has one or more arrows as part of it, is it still R8-3 or does it become equivalent to R7-1 No Parking Any Time?

Thank you,

Paul
