I have updated the map with some changes to Kazakhstan, this is because the non-religious population has grown to people claiming to religions to Islam, Russian Orthodox and others, the map of the source was made since 1980, Kazakhstan gained independence since 90s, so religious identity has grown. I have used the Soviet Union map to add the colors to the map to make a better distribution of religions. Please view: Image:Soviet Union Muslim Population 1979.jpg for more information.

1) Why is Austria & Estonia singled out as being non-religious? 2) Greenland and Svalbard may be sparsely populated but very much so Christian. And many other countries are no less sparsely populated, eg, Australia, Canada. 3) Russia is all wrong. 87.72.52.13 14:24, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[回复]

Ethiopia/Eritrea[编辑]

What's up with the map? In northern Ethiopia, the majority of the population are Orthodox Christians. In the Eritrean highlands (bordering Ethiopia), the vast majority are Christian as well. With the lowlands being predominantly Muslim. The overall split of the population in Eritrea is 50/50, but it'd be easy to fix this map since in the highlands, the vast majority are Christian.

This is still incorrect as described above. --JWB (talk) 22:00, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[回复]

South Sudan[编辑]

What's up with that? The sources which were allegedly used for this map show nothing of the kind[1][2]. --Dbachmann (talk) 07:26, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[回复]

I see this wasn't the only problem. Man, people have taken this map to town. I call vandalism. This isn't supposed to be a free-for-all build your own map. It's supposed to be an accurate representation of the sources used. If the sources themselves are flawed, too bad, make another map based on other sources. I reverted back to the original image which was in fact based on the sources given. --Dbachmann (talk) 08:37, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[回复]

"Non-religious"?[编辑]

Why is the Czech Republic, Latvia, northern Russia and western Ukraine marked as "non-religious"? This map is meant to show the major religion of any particular area, not the size of the religious population so the "non-religious" should mean no religion whatsoever, or, otherwise, no population at all (like most of Greenland). Besides, even if the point of this map would be to show numbers of religious population, there is no explanation why Latvia would be marked as "non-religious" if Estonia which is far more irreligious is not marked as such, nor western Ukraine which is almost as religious as Poland and more religious than eastern Ukraine. The map of Russia is simply strange, Christianity is the dominant religion of the most of the area marked as "non-religious" (are there really any sources confirming that the northern part does not have any religion, except, strangely, the very border area?). The same applies to a large part marked as "tribal religions", for instance, Kamchatka Krai where dominant population group is ethnic Russians. Stadscykel (talk) 17:43, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[回复]

Whether it's implemented correctly or not, it's presumably intended to show where lack of claimed religious affiliation has a plurality... AnonMoos (talk) 01:47, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[回复]

no, "non-religious" means that the majority of local population is non-religious. yes, this map is based on more than one source, and only Britannica uses the scheme of showing "non-religious" majorities. The map author decided to take the Britannica map as the base. I agree that some parts of the map are strange, and conflating more than one source is difficult if the sources are not in agreement. Somebody just needs to draw a better map based on better sources. It's little use moaning about how bad this map is when it can only be as good as the sources it used. --Dbachmann (talk) 15:32, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[回复]

Suriname[编辑]

Roughly 14 percent of the population of Suriname is Muslim. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_Suriname--186.179.239.69 18:41, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[回复]

Greenland vs Sahara[编辑]

Why parts of Greenland, Siberia and Australia are marked as non-religious? If it is because these regions are uninhabited, same rule is applicable for most of Sahara desert and Saudi Arabia. Please clarify. --99v (留言) 15:42, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[回复]
