Incorrect Crown

[編集]

This image displays the Tudor Crown which hasn't been used it heraldry since 1953. The St Edward's Crown is the correct crown and should be used just like it was with his mother's cypher. Besides all this an official cypher has yet to be released. AviationEnzo (トーク) 02:50, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[返信]

He's most likely going to use the Tudor Crown because it's generally used by Kings. Hence not since 1953. Like you said, it ain't actually decided, he could use anything, could use a great big crapping bum for all we know

The Tudor Crown is the one chosen, and the College of Arms have said "It is envisaged that the form of the Crown seen in the new cypher will be adopted as the form used in representations of the Royal Arms and in Military and Crown Badges in the new reign."
That said, the crown in the SVG and its alignment do not quite match the pattern shown on the College's webpage. This ought to be adjusted. I can have a look at it at some point maybe next week. If the Tudor crown is to appear on all royal arms and badges, it is a crucial graphic to get as close as possible to the original. Hogweard (トーク) 14:05, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[返信]
Which I have now done. Hogweard (トーク) 16:26, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[返信]
Your tudor crown is the most accurate upload to date. Saved me a job thanks! I would suggest toning down the colours to make it less cartoon like, using the photocopy release displayed by the College of Arms. Ulsterman1921 (トーク) 18:45, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[返信]
In the definitive version from the College of Arms, the main colour is closer to a mushroom brown. I started with that and have just uploaded a version based on that colour: Royal Cypher of King Charles III alt.svg.
The College of Arms one is painted, and paint is a very different medium from SVG: the way the colours are formed and presented is different, and indeed choosing the best match for the colour needs a sort of average over the various spots. I think I got it right with '#e8c85c'. The various subtleties of shade are presented in paint in ways which maybe a painter could explain, and cannot be reproduced precisely in SVG but can be imitated, with a contoured colour - SVG's 'contour' function does it better than a brush and a limited palet, which leads you into an esoteric debate about how far one is reproducing the paintwork and how far one it doing it afresh. So even with the alt version where I try a closer imitation, I have not done the pearls the way they are painted on the College's version because it is not true to the medium I am using.
For reproducing the original, '#e8c85c' is the closest match, and it produces a restrained form. I judged though that when working with the capabilities of SVG and in the context of heraldry that appears on Wikimedia projects, the brighter version using '#ffcc00' was the best to use. Having written all that, I looked at the 'alt' version in the wild as it were, as opposed to zoomed up on an Inkscape screen. It does look pretty natty. I could swap the two names around, so the '#e8c85c' version, more closely resembling the original, is the default, if that is preferred. Hogweard (トーク) 16:52, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[返信]
