Identification discussion[編集]

moved from file description

Justification for usage:

  • The image dates from 1919-1921 during the Irish War of Independence. It offers a direct pictorial image of the West Cork Brigade Flying Columns. The image is used to illustrate a range of publications, none of whom have been able to establish who the original photographer was. It probably was a member of the Flying Column, but no-one can be sure. The image is presumed to be out of copyright because of its age and because its original has long since been lost (or is unknown) and so all that remain are copies of copies book publishers have been advised legally that copyright would be unenforceable in the absence of an original print. (Most copies seem to be copies of newspaper copies of other copies etc., hence the poor quality.) FearÉIREANN15px\(caint) 05:05, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[返信]
This image is in a book titled "The Flying Column - West Kilkenny, 1916-1921. Those in the photo are named and the photo is entitled Seán Hogan's Flying Column." Jm butler 08:13, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[返信]

I have added a photo from the book, The Flying Column - West Kilkenny 1916-21.

Image depicts Hogans (No.2) 3rd Tipp. Bde. and not unidentified 'West Cork'

The image appears in Jim Maher's book, The Flying Column- West Kilkenny 1916-1921 : ISBN 9780906602089 - as illustration #65, facing p120. The above image is a cropped version. The original has two additional figures standing at rear, both only half in camera frame. The sub-script associated with the image reads:
Seán Hogans Flying Column (part of)
Front Row sitting L to R
Seán Hayes, Gabriel McGrath, Tom Gorman, Richard Dalton, Liam Mulcahy, Liam Breen, Ned Dwyer.
Middle Row L to R
David Fitzgerald, Martin Lyons, Francis Payne, Seán Morrissey, Maurice McGrath,John Fitzgerald,Michael Patterson
Standing at back L to R
Seán Hogan (cropped), Ned Mulcahy, John Butler, Tom Kirwan, Liam Keating, Thomas Taylor, Bill Mulloughney, David Moher, Jack Nagle (cropped)
Members not present
John (Buddy) O'Donoghue (sic.), Ned Dalton, Patrick Hackett, Tom Looby, Tom Daly, Matty McKenna, Tom Ryan, Tom Mullaney, Denis Lonergan, David McAuliffe, David Quirke, John Power, Jim Doherty
The author goes on to thank Mrs. Margaret Phelan "for allowing me the use of some of her valuable photographs." The image on CAIN( see link above), clearly taken from a newspaper, misidentifies the image at subscript. RashersTierney (talk) 17:15, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[返信]
