Image problems

In the San Francisco article, this image was accompanied by a reference that stopped at 1990. Where did the 1991-to-2008 population numbers come from? Here's the reference:

• Gibson, Campbell (June 1998). Population of the 100 Largest Cities and Other Urban Places in the United States: 1790 to 1990. U.S. Census Bureau.

Also, the image is saddled with a shading effect that conveys no useful information. This kind of prettification is called chartjunk, and is not good for encyclopedic purposes. Binksternet (talk) 17:37, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
