The painting originates by Christopher Rave (1881-1933), (see de:Christopher Rave), a painting artist from Hamburg. His Signature "Chr. Rave" is found in the lower left corner of the painting. The painting is referred to by Carl Kircheiß, Wal hooo! Weltreisen mit Harpunen, Angelhaken und Netzen, Wilkens, Rendsburg 1950, S. 182. The original painting was presentend some weeks ago on a TV-show at NDR-TV (north-German station): Description and pictures of the TV-Show.
