A new discovery by Derek Bair gives strong evidence that this painting was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. Please visit [itsjustilfe.com] for the research and findings. He's found that it matches up exactly with that of the Mona Lisa and would be almost impossible to be created by anyone else if the 1495 date is correct.

(Remark by a user different from the one who wrote this caption: identification of this anonymous painting as a portrait of no less than Caprotti needs some support. Whence does this piece of information come? —G.dallorto 22:15, 4 March 2006 (UTC) ) /moved from the image by --Nolanus 01:01, 24 February 2007 (UTC)/[回覆]
Re Derek Bair's opinion, all Leonardo's pupils imitated his style. If you match this face with any one of the countless student copies of the Mona Lisa, you will find the same coincidence, which means that any one of numerous students could have painted it.
Re whether it is Caprotti, well, no-one knows for sure, but the similarity to the St John the Baptist indicates that the same model was used, ten years apart. The only thing that we know about Salai's appearance is that as a child he had long, beautiful curling hair. Since this painting is clearly associated with Leonardo's workshop and since a child with beautiful long curls was known to be associated with the workshop, then it is fairly safe to presume that this picture is of that particular child, because magnificent curly hair like his is not all that common.
