A question: Why did the creators of Star Trek think of the Milky Way and it's environs in only two dimensions? I ask this because there are numerous galaxies on the Local Group, all moving in different directions, and our galaxy is also three dimensional. Or is this the germ of a new idea for future stories? Sensible responses appreciated. Thanks.
