Suezmax width

[編輯]

Emma Maersk passes Suez Canal, and has a width of 56,40m (>50m). Please fix this.--Kopiersperre (留言) 18:45, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[回覆]

Thanks for bringing it to my attention. en:Suezmax states, "From 2010 the wetted surface cross sectional area of the ship is limited by 1006 m2, which means 20.1 m (66 ft) of draught for ships with the beam no wider than 50.0 m (164.0 ft) or 12.2 m (40 ft) of draught for ships with maximum allowed beam of 77.5 m (254 ft 3 in)." Can you please suggest a good way to represent that in the graphic? Otherwise, I'll just change the value to 77.5 m. cmglee (talk) 21:52, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[回覆]
✓ Done @Ain92: I've redrawn the diagram with both extremes. cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 00:05, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[回覆]
@Ain92: My pleasure. I don't understand what you mean by "removed length for Suezmax altogether". It previously read "unlimited length" as it does now. I moved the label from the bottom left of each figure to the top right to align the labels. Cheers, cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 10:24, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[回覆]

Suezmax length

[編輯]

Graphic says unlimited length but en:Suezmax says 400 m. Nurg (留言) 04:26, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[回覆]

@Nurg: Thanks for informing me. The referenced paper in the article, http://mdpi.com/2077-1312/7/5/131/htm states
According to the rule of navigation by the SCA (Suez Canal Authority), the dimensions of ships to transit the Canal are limited to 400 m of LOA, a maximum of 20.1 m of draught, and 50 m of beam. If LOA is longer than 400 m, the vessel needs to receive permission from the SCA.
So it's not hard-limited to 400 m, just that permission is needed for longer vessels.
http://researchgate.net/publication/281235312_Cascade_strategy_of_container_terminals_to_maximize_their_quantitative_and_qualitative_capacity confirms:
For the Suez Canal, authorized dimensions of vessels to transit the canal are a little complicated, whereas no lock chamber exists in the canal. A combination of permissible draft and bream are determined between (draft: 12.2m and beam: 77.5m) and (draft: 20.1m and beam: 50.0m), without a limit of LOA, according to the navigation rules of the canal (The Suez Canal Authority, 2015).
I'll update the article. Cheers, cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 13:26, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[回覆]
