Why there is no Mediterranean Sea between Europe and Africa??? NoychoH (留言) 18:28, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[回复]

Came here to say the same. Where is the Mediterranean sea? This map is really weird, too unrealistic... --ExperiencedArticleFixer (留言) 09:56, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[回复]
@NoychoH: @ExperiencedArticleFixer: Thanks for your interest. The novel, which is illustrated by this map, "The Man in the High Castle" by Philipp K. Dick, includes a drained Mediterranean in its plot. The Nazis have achieved this after their victory in WWII, which is the main premise of the novel. The draining was carried out as part of a project called "Farmland" in order to win more land fit for cultivation.--Gernsback67 (留言) 16:01, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[回复]
User:ExperiencedArticleFixer The map is imaginary -- actions in the book never go into this amount of detailing border lines and names for things. The Mediterranean Sea however is mentioned in the paragraph of the Final Solution to the Africa Problem, p24
"But Africa. They had simply let their enthusiasm get the better of them there, and you had to admire that, although more thoughtful advice would have cautioned them to perhaps let it wait for a bit until, for instance, Project Farmland had been completed. Now there the Nazis had shown genius; the artist in them had truly emerged. The Mediterranean Sea bottled up, drained, made into tillable farmland, through the use of atomic power - what daring! ..."
Hope that helps, Cheers Markbassett (留言) 21:26, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[回复]

Map warning[编辑]

(moved from my talk page. --Sapphorain (留言) 07:08, 18 April 2023 (UTC) )[回复]

Why do you keep adding a warning to the world map of The Man in the High Castle? Not only there is no need for it, plenty of other files don't have any kind of warning. -- 2804:248:FBCE:3400:7038:D8D6:9B59:52EF 23:01, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]

As clearly stated this warning concerns the factual accuracy of the description of the file. The description contains the very problematic sentence « This map shows the division of the world between Nazi-Germany (dark brown), Japan (dark red) and their respective allies. » And this is misleading, as it induces one to think the map illustrates what is described in the book, which it doesn’t do: 95 percent of the map is pure speculation setting a very precise division of the world not contained in the book and invented by somebody else. If this sentence stays, the warning must also stay.
I would not be opposed to the removal the warning, if what is contained in it is put in the description itself. For instance:
« This map is inspired by Dick’s story. It shows a plausible division of the world between Nazi-Germany (dark brown), Japan (dark red) and their respective allies. It is however much more precise than the fictitious world the book actually describes».--Sapphorain (留言) 07:08, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]
