This painting was for long thought to be the only image of Lanchester known, and was painted from memory in the late 1960s, approximately 20 years after his death, by my father, Reginald Main, who shared an office with him in the Inbstitution of MEchanical Engineers in London, in the last months of Lanchester's life. Reg rose to become Seniour Assistant Secretary and then Director of R&D of that body, at the head of the mechanical engineering profession in the UK, with very many similar achievements to his credit. The painting, when I last heard of it, hangs in the Board Room of the Institution, at 1 Birdcage Walk, in London. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2.123.173.109 (talk) 03:51, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
