I would guess this image shows a mid-19th-century Scotsman. It turns out it is quite difficult to find this combination of no wig and high-collar in portraits. The collar type is always paired with a wig in the 18th century, and as soon as the wigs go away in the 19th, so do the collars. An exception are apparently Scottish reverends, at least judging from this portrait dated 1870 (no wig, same collar and frock combination). Similar examples: Rev. MacVicar (1885), Rev. Thomson (c. 1830). But here is a c. 1820 portrait of an English clergyman that also looks somewhat compatible. --Dbachmann (トーク) 18:58, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[返信]
