Copyright violation?
[編輯]I took this photo of the Batmobile parked on a public street in Toronto. How does that qualify as a copyright violation? It's a public appearance. Alexander Laney (talk) 15:06, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ok. Someone took off the copyvio tag before I noticed that. I think people who tag things should be forced to explain themselves. Alexander Laney (talk)
- You can see the explanation in the history. It was "Derivative work: Photo of a replica of the batmovile from recent Batman movies". The batmovile is a creative work copyrighted by it's owner, I'm not sure if that is DC Comics or Warner Bros, but in the end it's not a public domain object of utilitarian use that may be freely photographed. The DeLorean car, to give a counter example, can appear freely at any photo with no regards to copyright, despite being a narrative key at Back to the Future movies, because it does exist such a brand of cars. There is no brand of "batmobile" cars for sale, it's entirely a fictional car used in movies or comic books or whatever, so making replicas of it or taking photos of such replicas constitutes a derivative work still subject to the copyright of the original work Belgrano (talk) 15:45, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
