The Fighting Temerair

Voted for by the public as one of their favourite paintings from any currently hanging in a British gallery or museum, regardless of the nationality of the artist or the period in which they worked. Currently hanging in The National Gallery, the venue which provided the largest number of chosen paintings in the U.K.

Three panellists went on to choose the top ten paintings which included Van Gogh's sunflowers, the Arnolfini family by Jan Van Eyck, The Last of England by ford Maddox Brown and Piero della Francesca’s The Baptism of Christ.

On September 5th a final painting will be chosen as overall winner. You can influence that deicision by nominating your favourite painting, log on to www.bbc.co.uk/today.

The details of both the Temeraire, and the tug, are not correct.
