Nebraska Territory: Slave or Free?

The maps http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:US_SlaveFree1858.gif and http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:US_SlaveFree1861.gif as viewed today, may contain a serious error. That is whether Nebraska Territory and certain others were slave or free. According to the Dred Scott decision of 1857, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dred_Scott_v._Sandford slavery was protected in every territory, and neither the US Congress nor the territorial legislatures had any power to ban it. Therefore, the pale blue color on these maps should be replaced with pale pink on all the territories. Oaklandguy (talk) 23:55, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Platte purchase (NW Missouri)

The current version of the map places the northwest corner of modern-day Missouri in the Kansas Territory, but that border was changed to the modern one in 1837. Blahedo (留言) 00:35, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
