Why

Why was a new image created? You can just overwrite Image:Unix history.svg if your replacement is better. Also, why is the Linux version number removed? --Ysangkok 10:58, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

It was created because Image:Unix history.svg is used in many different Wikipedias, and it wouldn't be fair to inflict en-specific issues on them. The Linux version number was removed because on en:Linux, "Linux" means "GNU/Linux, etc.", not "the Linux kernel", and there is no one version for all Linux distributions. ¦ Reisio 19:12, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Well, there is an official kernel version, which is the one I wrote. But nevermind, I can see that it seems strange to compare the kernel and other full Unix versions. --Ysangkok 19:29, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

I still do not know why there is a seperate version. The english version (this one) is used on 8 projects. The other is used on 11 projects. People don't see the difference. Also, there is not any English text in either version, so why make an English version? --Ysangkok 11:35, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

GNU in this image

GNU's Not Unix so it should not be included in this image. Also the GNU Project isn't an operating system. There is an arrow indicating there was code from Unix reused in Linux which is not the case! Think of the SCO-Linux controversies. --213.157.15.176 06:56, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

It is Unix. For the record, LAME is an encoder, and Wine is an emulator, too.

You could change it to just start with 'GNU', but that would be less informative than it is now, I think, since the OS "GNU" was not complete enough to use until recently.

The "X" in Mac OS X is just a version number. It already says "10.something.something". --Ysangkok 11:26, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
