Hi,

The picture File:VancouverTransitPolice PD8092.JPG is also a valid RAR archive.

This archive contains two file:

• (c) by.txt, with the following text : "Copyright by Psychodaddy 2008 and 2009"
• Copyright-txt.exe, a 72 KB executable file, protected by a password

It may sound paranoid but:

(1) It's protected by a password. What's prove us it's not another thing ?

(2) You've some EXIF tags, a standard to note a copyright.

(3) Pictures uploaded on Commons should have an open format. We're a FREE project, rar or password-protected files are not what I call a free technology.

I can't see a problem. The picture is free. A copyright-notice outside EXIF-tags is legitimate. A standard to note a copyright is Digimarc or Steganography, not EXIF-tags. Has France another type? A German computer-magazine says it too. --Psychodaddy 01:50, 28. Mär. 2009 (CET)

Of course the standard is Digimarc in the commercial world. But you're in the free world. You licence your pictures in Creative Commons and GPL to allow any people to do what they want with it, as long they credit you and don't attain your moral rights.

And the problem with your steno method is it's impossible to know what is hidden in the picture. How can we technically differentiate legitimate copyright mention use from virus or illegal pictures?

 

Another topic:

If you want to be able to claim ownership on your pictures and prove it with a certain date, you can use this method:

(1) Burn a CD with your pictures or put your pictures in a cheap and flat usb device / microcard / etc.

Or print them.

(2) Put your prints/disk/device in an envelope and send it in Einschreiben to yourself.

(3) When you receive back your envelope, don't open it and store it.

Now, you've a proof. Better, you've a proof with a certain date, the Einschreiben one. If you've to go before a court, you can bring the envelope still closed to the judge.

It's the technique used by all studios, ads agency, etc. in Italy, Belgium, Germany, France (and so probably everywhere in Europe). --Dereckson 02:27, 28. Mär. 2009 (CET)

There is no problem with my method. Everybody can use the picture, free in the free world. But also in a free world I have the right to be the owner. If you have a problem, don't use the picture.
