This image (as viewed 22 Oct 2009) is identical to that found in the publication: "Controlled Probe Surface Chemistry for Nanoscale Contact Deformation", by Catherine A Tweedie, Georgios Constantinides, Gregory S Blackman, and Krystyn J Van Vliet, Mater. Res. Soc. Symp. Proc. Vol. 1021, 2007, page 1021-HH06-01 -- figure 2 (inset). but the author list of that publication does not match the user (User:Deglr6328) who uploaded the image and claimed it was taken by him/her. The Materials Research Society owns the copyright of the article and hence the image, and hence this image is no longer (even if it was at one point) GPL.

Please clarify? —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.170.206.82 (talk) 20:54, 22 October 2009‎ (UTC)

Hmmm. If they published it in 2007 and this was uploaded in 2005 then they are violating the copyright of User:Deglr6328 by not crediting him according to the GFDL, unless of course, there's some evidence it was published by the MRS before that. • Anakin (talk) 08:17, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[回复]
I assure you that I created that image on a VCA device and I could easily do another one to prove it. I am afraid Tweedie et. al. and Materials Research Society are in obvious violation of the GFDL. I don't have access to the paper but I would love to know whether the image is merely being used illustratively (in which case, I could not really care less about it) or if it is actually being passed off as their own research, in which case I would suggest the validity of Ms. Tweedie's research and her degree may be called into question. --Deglr6328 (talk) 08:04, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[回复]
It hadn't occurred to me to simply Google it before, but I did, and here's the paper: http://www.mrs.org/s_mrs/bin.asp?CID=8752&DID=201148&DOC=FILE.PDF. The image is very small compared to the one here. Looks like a straight case of plagiarism by Ms. Tweedie to me. I wonder where the other images come from. • Anakin (talk) 15:55, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[回复]
Ehhhhhm how did you do that?! I googled it too but all I found was a link back here and one link to the MRS abstract page that wanted $25 to view it. I'm still pretty surprised that someone noticed this in such a small, inconsequential paper. Anyway, I'm inclined to let it slide. It's used illustratively to show contact angle in general and while the use suggests that it was the writer's work, it's not like they overlaid angle measurements on it and used it as an example of one of an experiment. We have record of the violation here so I'll just send a note to the Van Vliet http://web.mit.edu/vvgroup/ lab and leave it at that. --Deglr6328 (talk) 04:08, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[回复]
