The sound is wrong. I am Persian native speaker and we have in our language also the gain sound, but it is not like on this record. --87.78.196.93 00:48, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[回覆]

As a native speaker of more than one Semitic language I can also confirm that the recording was inaccurate. I have uploaded a more accurate one.--Rafy (talk) 10:35, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[回覆]
The sound may not be as accurate as you think it is because in w:varieties of Arabic for example it ranges from a pharyngeal approximant to a pharyngeal fricative to an epiglottal fricative to a pharyngealized glottal stop. Considering that the sound isn't accurate, the quality of the file is still way better and clearer than the amateur clip now replacing it. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 15:01, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[回覆]
I think the old one was the Arabic Ghain (Voiced uvular fricative or Voiced velar fricative) which can never be confused with the 'Ayn. I know this one is amateurish but that's the best we have... So far.--Rafy (talk) 18:54, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[回覆]
Alright, you may record it again but without using the Noise Cancellation option for the microphone (or any alteration for the audio, because it makes the sound of the consonant less audible, especially for people who aren't familiar to the consonant or its likes. Also, it would be better if you considered raising your pitch, to make your voice clearer. Additionally, you may also consider pronouncing the open back vowel [ʕɑː ʔɑʕˈʕɑ] instead of the front vowel [ʕa ʔaʕˈʕaː] as other consonant audio files. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 14:15, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[回覆]
Actually I found it in a talk page and I merely transferred it to Commons. Creating an ideal Voiced pharyngeal fricative sound isn't really my strongest point.--Rafy (talk) 17:12, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[回覆]

TFighterPilot lately uploaded a file with a better quality, but it now sounds like an approximant or even a pharyngealized glottal stop [ʔˤ], not the ideal fricative. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 01:16, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[回覆]

You're right. I recorded again, I think it came out better this time. TFighterPilot (talk) 11:37, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[回覆]
Now sounds better :) --Mahmudmasri (talk) 10:33, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[回覆]

Sound

Now I hear the wrong sound. This sound is in my language. It used to be right. Takhirgeran Umar (對話) 22:01, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[回覆]

Now I hear the sound File:Voiced velar fricative.ogg with some kind of accent. Takhirgeran Umar (對話) 22:41, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[回覆]

It seems like a problem with the IPA symbol itself

[編輯]

The IPA is using this symbol to refer to what seems to be completely different sounds and I believe that's the reason this file keeps getting reverted.

In Arabic the sound of the letter: ع is completely distinct from the sound of the letter: R in Danish "Ravn". In fact, Arabic has another letter: غ that resembles that sound better, hence the constant disagreement on which file is correct.

For an Arabic speaker (and I bet many other languages), the two files sound like two distinct letters. The reason being used to justify this ambiguity: "Languages do not distinguish voiced fricatives from approximants produced in the throat" is false. — 以上未簽名的留言是由該使用者加入的: Me8330 (留言 • 貢獻) 13:44, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[回覆]
