Suggestion: Change the typeface to Times or something similar, for readability etc. 83.180.129.47 17:41, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[回复]

Thanks for your suggestion. Perhaps you could explain how the current font is hindering readability? I've used it on most of my maps for more than five years and yours is the first comment I've had regarding this aspect. XrysD (留言) 19:51, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[回复]

Style consistency[编辑]

It would ease understanding if there was consistent styling for each of the languages. Whilst the English names are styled consistently, there is inconsistency in the Welsh. "Caernarfon" is in regular type, whilst "Yr Wyddgrug" is in italics. "Wrecsam" is in green, but "Rhondda Cynon Taf" is in black. I know those of us familiar with Wales know the difference, but such inconsistency causes confusion for those seeking to learn about a place that is entirely unfamiliar to them. I've seen a university student writing in an essay that "some places, such as Gwynedd and Bangor, only have English names." --Cymrodor (留言) 12:08, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[回复]

Hi, thanks for your comments. The issue of place names for Wales is a tricky one to navigate as care has to be taken not to favour one language over the other. Where there are clearly both Welsh and English names for a place (e.g. Wrecsam and Wrexham) it is possible to have a scheme that shows both (here, English in regular, Welsh in italics). The problem comes where there is only one official name for a place (e.g. Caernarfon or Ceredigion). There used to be anglicised versions of these (Carnarvon and Cardiganshire) but these are no longer to officially be used to refer to the places (see the relevant Wiki articles). As such how does one indicate this on the map? The choice I made was to show the name in normal type for single names like these. So to take your points, there is no Welsh or English name for Caernarfon, only a global name. Likewise Rhondda Cynon Taf. I suspect if I changed the map to label these as "Welsh" names I would get comments that they are not just Welsh names but English ones too. So I believe that the map is consistent within the terms I've defined. XrysD (留言) 13:25, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[回复]
