Should we add arrows of advance?

[编辑]

I think it's good consediring the map is changing fast over the last 2 days Lucasoliveira653 (留言) 13:53, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Background colors

[编辑]

In the current version of the map, the entire southern third of Darfur is colored green, whereas the source cited only makes a reference to Nyala. Unless there is something I'm missing, isn't it somewhat misleading as is? --ILostMyOriginalAccount (留言) 18:56, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]

They took Nyala + the south of it Lucasoliveira653 (留言) 00:41, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Add Arrows back

[编辑]

RSF have advanced severely in Sudan, i think it's better bring them back Lucasoliveira653 (留言) 20:53, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Different Colors?

[编辑]

I think that maybe we should try different colors, since green-red is the most common form of colorblindess. Perhaps Yellow-Blue? Tungster24 (留言) 10:06, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Came here to say this. Festucalex (留言) 11:09, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Add more airports

I think we should add the airport at Merowe and Port Sudan. Berobalkan (留言) 16:03, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Possible update to Nyala and Ed Daein

[编辑]

I think a few areas on the map could potentially be clarified with this new information I recently read from this article by Radio Dabanga. In the article, it says that:

- [Al-Fashir is still disputed]
- "Intermittent exchanges of fire with heavy weapons continued in the northern part of [Nyala] on Thursday"
(should be changed to disputed on map)
- "[Government] forces are stationed at the base of the 16th Infantry Division, not far from the airport [in Nyala]"
(maybe add a red airport symbol to represent Nyala Airport on the map?
- "RSF soldiers are deployed in the El Matar, El Riyadh, and El Malja neighbourhoods close to the army command [in Nyala]."
(Not entirely sure where these neighborhoods are in the city, but if someone does it could help really clarify the map)
- "Ed Daein, capital of East Darfur, has hardly been affected by the ongoing battles [...] except for two incidents on Sunday [...] which led to the death of four army soldiers
(Not sure if this mean if Ed Daein is under government control, or if the RSF captured it quickly and nothing is happening there now. Still thought I'd mention it just in case)

That's all I got from this article. If I am wrong about any of these changes, please tell me, but if not, can these changes (especially the first two) be updated on the map? Thanks! Johnson524 (留言) 05:27, 23 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Verifiable, neutral updates regarding territorial control should be made to the map's module before they are transcluded here. Clyde H. Mapping (留言) 08:38, 23 April 2023 (UTC)[回复]
Ed daein is certainly still SAF controlled, same with En Nahud (I've talked to several people from there), and the area South of Nyala (RSF only recently took Um Dafouk a few days ago). The SAF still control the Western part of Geneina (although they don't control the road from it to Chad) and the area NW of it, which the SLA (Minnawi faction) and JEM jointly patrol (both of which merged into SAF with the Juba agreement). Also missing on this map are the areas controlled by SLA (al-Nur faction) and SPLM-N (al-Hilu faction) who never merged into SAF, and still hold the same independent territory they have for nearly 20 years. El Obeid can also hardly be called contested, the RSF control no territory inside of it, and only control the road West of it, and a few villages North of the road East of it. They are also present on the road North of El Obeid towards Khartoum, which they likely use to send supplies and reinforcements, and people have told me about RSF looting of Travellers on that road. It would also make sense for the RSF to control this road, as the SAF claimed 2 times in the past to have hit RSF reinforcements at a cattle market along this road. The RSF used to also control the entire Southern road from El Obeid until Kadugli, but were in fact pushed out of there 2 weeks ago by SAF troops that left Kadugli towards the North (which SPLM-N al-Hilu immediately used to their advantage by capturing 3 villages from them around 30km East of Kadugli, another reason why they should be included as they've become an active participant in the conflict). 2A00:6020:4385:1B00:A8F3:67C6:B40:C286 15:12, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[回复]

SPLM-N

[编辑]

Please update the map to include clashes by the SPLM-N in South Kordofan and Blue Nile on 21 and 25 June. See Wikipedia article for details. Borgenland (留言) 18:58, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Thanks! There were also serious clashes in Kurmuk, Blue Nile near the Ethiopian border but I'm not sure whether the SPLM holds territory there or should it be limited to just a contested button for the town. Borgenland (留言) 05:57, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Update

[编辑]

See this map I saw on a news site dated 21 July. If verified, then the Commons map is horribly out of date: https://www.dabangasudan.org/en/all-news/article/more-people-killed-in-battles-in-el-obeid-and-sudan-capital Borgenland (留言) 14:47, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Change file colours

[编辑]

Hello, I am color blind and it is impossible for me to read the map. It all looks the same. Could you change the map to a more color blind friendly colors? Such as shades of blue or anything besides this? Thanks 2001:861:E3C0:FF40:4870:967:67BC:E0E2 08:55, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Changing map to be Red-Blue

[编辑]

For concerns with color blindness

If nobody disagrees with me in the next week, I will carry out the change on Template:2023 Sudan conflict detailed map Abbasi786786 (留言) 15:19, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[回复]

I like the idea behind the change, but if possible, could the blue used be a little less bold, or the red a little brighter? The color balance just seems a little... off, I'm not sure how else to describe it. Whatever is done though, the disputed area on the bottom-right of the map needs to be updated from the green as well. Cheers! Johnson524 (留言) 12:35, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Colour of map

[编辑]

I know people have colour blindness, but why does this have to be blue? It doesn’t match the template and almost all war maps have red as the government and blue as the rebels. Can we revert it to be green so it’s consistent with other civil wars maps? NaniEmperor (留言) 01:25, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[回复]

SLA-Nur in black

[编辑]

El Nur's faction of the SLA isn't currently fighting for El Fasher like the map shows, Minni Minnawi's faction is along with JEM. We might want to change colors around El Fasher as Minnawi was previously neutral and is now pro-SAF (but a separate entity). El Nur, on the otherhand, is neutral. We should probably change the color to something different to highlight the different factions. Jebiguess (留言) 16:42, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[回复]

RSF positions in Wad Madani are shown incorrectly

[编辑]

According to this map by the Sudan War Monitor as well as this article also by them, the RSF attacked Wad Madani from the Eastern Bank of the Blue Nile and pushed west, they did not advance from the west to the east as shown here. The map does not reflect current developments

[编辑]

There are reports that the RSF has taken control of Habila, in South Kordofan state which does not appear on the map. Mr. James Dimsey (留言) 07:48, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[回复]

Dilling is split between three factions according to the Sudan War Monitor

[编辑]

According to this source, the city of Dilling, portrayed as of now as being under SAF control, is actually currently split three ways between the SAF, RSF AND SPLM-N (al-Hilu). Along with the RSF capture of Habila that Mr. James Dimsey has commented on above (corroborated by this source that means we should probably update the map to reflect these changes. Most of the north is sparsely populated

[编辑]

A lot of land in Sudan's north (a notable exception being around the Nile river) is almost completely uninhabited. Therefore, they shouldn't be displayed as "controlled by the SAF" but rather as "sparsely populated territory", similar to that on the map of the Central African Republic Civil War. 2604:3D08:8B80:F00:386A:761:54EA:567E 22:52, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[回复]

Umdurman location

[编辑]

isn't Umdurman way too much north on the map? isn't it supposed to be next to Khartum, right across the Nile on north-west? 78.116.36.82 22:21, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[回复]

Uninhabited regions

[编辑]

Much of the northern part of Sudan (except for around the Nile and by the coast) is nearly completely uninhabited, and displaying it as controlled by the SAF or RSF would be inaccurate. Game2Winter (留言) 21:56, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[回复]

I just updated the map, and on my PC, the map displays in a hard-to-read way. Does anyone else see what I mean? I asked at the Teahouse, and no one seemed to have an issue. GGOTCC (留言) 23:03, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[回复]
