purpose of this image

can anybody tell me for what purpose is this image? why is she sitting in the scales,and for whom is the money in the other half of the scales? --87.228.204.54 09:03, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Wikipe-tan is an anthropomorphisation of Wikipedia itself, so in some sense she represents or stands in for the website(s). Here her mass seems to represent the hosting costs of the Wikipedia servers, which are offset by donations (here as bills and coins). If as many donations come in "weightwise" as the hosting costs (that is, the scales are level), then the website is solvent. More is surplus, but less is a deficit that would eventually lead to the encyclopedia being taken offline. This was much more of a concern in the early days of the project, which this image basically dates from. Arlo James Barnes 20:36, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
