American Embassy Tel Aviv joined Keren Kayemed L'Yisrael and Jewish National Fund-USA in observing the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks in the U.S. Over 500 participants gathered for the ceremony at the 9/11 Living Memorial in the Emek Arazim Valley near Jerusalem. Israeli government officials, over 30 foreign diplomats, members of bereaved families, the U.S. Police Unity Tour delegation, Israel Firefighters and Rescue, Israel National Police and representatives of first-responder organizations all attended. Addressing his remarks particularly to the 150-member Young Judea group who also attended, U.S. Ambassador Daniel Shapiro said, "This year, our remembrances mark the transition of 9/11 from living memory to history. A young person on the cusp of adulthood today has no personal memory of 9/11. The obligation falls on us to teach them, and on them to learn -- both about the great sadness, pain, and loss, but also the inspiring stories of heroism, courage and generosity around those events."
