English: Rudolf 'Rudi' Vrba, born Walter Rosenberg (1924–2006), was a professor of pharmacology at the University of British Columbia, who was known for his work on diabetes, cancer and the chemistry of the brain. He is best known for his escape from the Auschwitz concentration camp in April 1944, during the Holocaust. Along with a fellow escapee, Alfréd Wetzler, Vrba was able to pass information to Jewish officials in Slovakia about the mass murder that was taking place inside the camp.
The 32 pages of information the men dictated became known as the Vrba–Wetzler report. It helped to halt the deportation of Hungary's Jews to Auschwitz, thereby saving 200,000 lives.
