Previous owners of the home include Victor Kauffmann (treasurer of The Evening Star Newspaper Company and Sunday editor of The Star), George Howland Chase (assistant general counsel of the Federal Reserve Board), Harold F. Linder (president and chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, ambassador to Canada, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs), Hani Masri (chairman of Capital Investment Management Corporation, political analyst, columnist for Al-Ayyam, former advisor to Yasser Arafat, member of the Peres Center for Peace International Board of Governors), and businessman Steven Rattner. The building is a contributing property to the Sheridan-Kalorama Historic District.
