The 1954 Packard Caribbean Convertible Model 5431-5479 was derived from the 1953 limited production luxury car. Improvements include a minor facelift, as with the other 1954 Packard models, and the new, huge 356 c.i. straight eight engine with nine main bearings that delivered 212 bhp. This was the last year for Packard's straight eight engine.

The 1954 Packard Caribbean came in two-tone color schemes, and featured partially enclosed rear wheel cutouts without fender shrouds. Again, the car had chrome trim that followed the lower body contours and wheel cutouts. It also has fake air intakes on the hood instead a hood ornament, and Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. "Continental" spare wheel kit was a factory standard equipment in 1953 and 1954 only.

The 1954 Caribbean still shared Packard's shorter (122 in.) wheelbase with the less expensive Packard Convertible which had higher sides and different side trim..
