English: In August 2010, Ryde Pier, Ryde, Isle of Wight failed a routine health and safety inspection involving ultrasound equipment not used before which showed steel beams in some places had been rusted through. The pier was immediately closed to all vehicle traffic. In September 2010 a temporary walkway was constructed along the old tramline to maintain pedestrian access to the pierhead and Wightlink ferry terminal for work to start on rebuilding the pier in October 2010. The work is expected to be complete by mid-March 2011 and cost around £5 million.
